Mendocino County Arrest Records Online Database

By Claire Dowell

The Mendocino County Sheriff's office is the caretaker of files regarding Mendocino County Sheriff Arrests. The sheriff's office maintains a log of their daily operations which they display on their official website. In accordance to the Public Records Act of the State of California Government Code 6254, citizens are given the right to access the files.

Arrests are recorded even if it does not lead to an incarceration. If a person is proven innocent, his or her records will not be revealed to the public but will still remain on the archives of the sheriff's office for future reference. If it does lead to incarceration, the record will become available for public access. Arrest records are useful when conducting background checks on other people because they reveal vital pieces of information such as the name of the criminal, nature of the crime, date and place where the crime happened, address, date of birth, and many more.

Before carrying out a search, acquire the proper request form at the sheriff's official. You can also obtain it from their website by downloading it. Fill it out by providing all the necessary pieces of information. Double check the information that you provide and make sure that they are up to date because it will be a factor in the success or failure of the search. Once you have got that down, include your personal details and provide any proof of identification. There are payments that you need to comply to for each request that you place, which are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the search.

It is allowed to access your own record in Mendocino County. If you spot any errors on your record, you can call the attention of the caretaker of your record to have it looked at and have the proper corrections done. If you want to access the records of other people, you have to get authorization from the court. Law enforcers, lawyers, employers, and landlords are usually given access to other people's records. If you are not any of the aforementioned people, you have a valid reason why you want the records. If the caretaker of the records does not see your reason as valid, they have the right to deny you access.

Arrest documents can also be obtained from websites that, although not ran by the government, have the authorization to keep copies of the documents and supply them to the public. Websites like these are all over the Internet. However, there are only a few that can be considered as legitimate providers of the documents. Prior to choosing the website where you will conduct your search, perform a background check on them and collect as many information you can about them until you are sold that they are legitimate.

A mug shot is required when documenting arrests. However, it does not automatically mean that arrested people are guilty criminals because they are deemed innocent until proven guilty. California provides an avenue for looking up mugshots of arrested people through the California Mugshot Database. Pictures, names, address, date of birth, and other important details regarding individuals who got arrested are displayed for the public to see.
