Make A Flower Bed Using Used Tires

By George Dodson

If you grew up working in your parents garden, you know how much you can save in fruits and vegetables. An easy thing to do and not an expensive one either. You will thoroughly enjoy the freshness of a garden vegetable. A herb garden is something you can try as well. The taste of your own produce is far better than that available in store. Added to this is the glow of producing your own food. Also you are the person controlling what is added to the production. You know it is fresh, natural, and without preservatives.

Lots of people just dont have the space for lots of fruit and vegetable growing. For that reason, they need an alternative. Planting a garden in a range of small spaces may be an answer. Doing this allows you to harvest a crop and then plant more for later in the season. Old tires are a great way for planting a garden.

Getting free old tires should be easy from many places. When getting new tires you might get old ones for only $5.00 You only need four or five, depending on the amount of planting you intend to do. But large installations may require over ten tires.

To some people the old tires may not look so good. What will the neighbors think? There are ways of dressing them up by covering them with something that looks much better. Setting the tires in some wooden boxes would make them look better. You can cut them up to form patterns such as pedals on a flower, and paint them on the outside to make them look better. Try, as a stand, the rim of the tire.

Dig down to a depth of 4inches to prepare the soil, once you have decided on a suitable spot. For healthy plants you will need the roots to grow as deeply as is possible. Good soil is essential for planting. A local store, Home Depot or a Lowes will stock this. Make sure you fertilize it properly and then plant your seeds according to the instructions. Water effectively but dont over water. You will have a small but adequate garden that will fulfill your needs very well. Growing your own produce instead of buying it will save you money.
