Employment Companies Are Necessary In The Current Employment Market

By Penny Toblas

Do not be put off by whatever you hear regarding the unemployment rate in America. There are still more than enough job opportunities out there for people who want to work. The hitch is that looking for a job today differs greatly from the process twenty years ago. Simply sending out resumes and cover letters is no longer an effective approach. For the employer to see the person behind the resume, you need employment companies to act as your agent in the job market.

Job hunters looking for entry level or mid level positions are well suited to staffing agencies, also called employment agencies. Many of the larger companies use employment agencies exclusively to hire new employees. The process of accepting applications and screening for background checks can be quite burdensome to the human resources department. A staffing agency can save employers a lot of time and money.

Upon registration with an employment agency, the applicant will be required to produce two forms of identification accepted by the Department of Immigration. Applicants also authorize a background check. It is not uncommon to complete and sign as many as twelve documents for the agency before registration. All this paperwork would over burden a busy human resources department. When an employer interviews an applicant referred from an employment agency, the employer can rest assured that the applicant has been thoroughly screened.

A recruitment agency, also called headhunter, works best if you are looking for a position at the managerial or executive levels. Employers who are willing to work with a recruitment agency depend on quality applicants only. They pay a considerable amount of money for this service. When an employer hires an applicant who was referred to them by a headhunter, the employer will pay up to thirty percent of the annual salary to the headhunter. The service may cost the employer thirty thousand to fifty thousand dollars or more.

Applying to a recruitment agency is very similar to applying for a job. You must submit a resume with references, be interviewed by an agency representative and agree to have your background checked. Just getting signed by the agency is a measure of success and may very well be indicative of finding a position in the very near future.

Some headhunter agencies focus on a niche area. For example, they may only represent physicians, or artists or engineers. This is an elite level of employment agencies and only the highly qualified need apply to them for representation.

Most people are familiar with the concept that movie stars only get cast in movies if they are represented by well known agents. Recruitment agencies follow the same concept. Hollywood agents only take on clients when the agents are fairly sure they can get the client cast in a movie or television show. As a prospective client of a recruitment agency, you must impress them enough that they want to represent you. With a respected headhunter, you are probably on the track to finding the position you want.

Global staffing agencies are another option. These agencies represent all skill levels, from entry to executive. Fortune 100 companies use them regularly. With global services they represent unique employment opportunities. People who are looking to relocate to another state or another country should register with this type of employment agency.

Global staffing agencies are large organizations and have raised the bar for productivity. One agency states they successfully fill vacancies five hundred thousand times a year. They also claim that one of their clients is hired every thirty three seconds. Global agencies frequently work to fill temporary positions. This does not need to be viewed as a negative by job hunters.

You should not be afraid to take a temporary position. In most cases, if the employee performs well he or she will be hired on a permanent basis. Temporary can even be considered an advantage if you want to try something or some place new. If you are not happy with the job adventure, you are free to leave without any negative repercussions.

There is every reason to be optimistic about your chances of finding that ideal job. With the right agent you are sure to achieve your goals. New employment means new beginnings. Growth in your professional life is always a good thing.
