How To Get A Job As A Mermaid

By George Dodson

There are many interesting creatures in the oceans. Some of the creatures are genuine some are from ancient myth. Among those that come from tales told over many a pint of ale are Davy Jones Locker, Neptune, and the mermaid. Of those that fill a tale over a pint of ale are Neptune, Davy Jone's locker and of course mermaids.

A mermaid is a half fish, half human and a beautiful sea creature. The victims are lured below the water by her amazing beauty. Philosophically, she is the perfect mix between earth and ocean. The mermaid represented the mystery of the sea to the Greeks. What did become of those unfortunate sailors?

People do perform as mermaids, despite it been all Greek mythology. They may have tails, but they are still beautiful women.

Want to get a job as a mermaid?

One of the main requirements is your love of water. The swimming action is completely different as you are using a tail. Begin by working as a model so you can learn how to present yourself. A lot of the time you won't be swimming in the sea. Much of your time will be entertaining others, so you want to be able to present yourself in such a way that you bring a mystic to your shape and performance. Other important considerations are how a camera works and different shooting angles.

Find out more about the ocean. Talk to divers and other people who are always in the water. Find out how they see the oceans. Make a portfolio by asking some underwater photographers to take some shots. You're going to need that if you want to impress some prospective employers who may be considering you for their next mermaid.

Learn how to perform by doing the likes of kid's parties. Kids are not particular on all the details of your performance so you can practice it without a lot of detailed criticism.

Have a go at creating a tail of your own.

A model turned professional mermaid is Hannah Frasier. She suggests that you create your own tail to match your body instead of copying other designs. It should have a natural feel. In addition, certain shapes create more power than others do, and they glide through the water better. Make it you, Hannah says, be creative.

By following these steps, one day it may be you in that picture swimming with the whale or getting applause from a thrilled audience at a famous water park somewhere in the world.
