Things You Need To Know About Reclaimed Siding

By Richard Stewart

Reclaimed materials are those used previously in a project or building which could be used again in another one. These materials can be changed in sizes, refinished, or altered but not reprocessed and remaining in their original form. Those that have been reprocessed in any way for reusing are called as recycled materials.

Meanwhile, sidings are what you use to apply to exterior walls in order to protect from the effects of weather like water and additional aesthetics for the house. The wood gotten from barns are being reused in many purposes specially the walls and are being called reclaimed siding. The following are essential details in knowing the worth of these materials in the market.

You have to know the species of your wood because it is one way of determining its value. There are those which are inherently valuable due to their species being rare and unavailable in the market today because of old age and not used as much anymore. If its age is less than two decades and they are common in the market today then they are not worth much.

Their dimensions are essential parts to consider as those larger timbers sells for more than those smaller ones. The reason for this the possibility of them being sawed into boards that are wider and longer more other advantages. Although beams are more expensive than boards because of their thickness plus the more possibilities for it.

Their condition should be of the highest quality to have the highest possible price by not having any damage on it. Samples of damages that can lower the value are those from insects, rotten pockets and large checks. The presence of metal objects like nails and screws would also affect their price and lower it as a result.

Dry ones which were protected well from natural elements are more valuable when compared to the ones rotted or waterlogged for years. If you own these antique timbers and boards then place them inside and put a cover on them. Put a stick in between them to separate and allowing air to circulate in the process.

Having a large supply would also be helpful because people are looking to buy in bulk whenever possible. Specially if your supply consist of all high quality materials which will worth possibly more. They want to buy in bulk because handling and shipping for the large and heavy products are expensive so doing them in one go is an advantage.

The value of them can be increased by arranging them properly and storing them in a way that can easily be reached. The reasons for this is that the cost for handling and shipping them will be reduced due to their arrangement. Piling them in a haphazard fashion makes them harder to reach lowering their worth because of the time to organize them for shipment increases.

Another way in checking if they will be valuable is by looking at the ring density and being more dense means its more valuable. Wider growth rings indicate that they grow faster and making them less valuable. These are the things you need to check when selling or buying reclaimed wood.
