Understanding What Constitutes A Quality Commercial Fire System

By Mark Mahaffey

When you think of fire safety, you may think first of home fire safety. However, workplace safety is also very important. These days, it is not uncommon for people to spend nearly as much of their time at work as they do at home! Therefore, fire safety at work is very important.

Putting together your commercial security plan is important, and there are a few components that you should consider as you do this. One consideration is your fire escape route. Does everyone in your building know what this route is? If they do not, you should have some training sessions on it. Also, make sure that your building contains at least 2 escape doors.

These fire doors are there for a reason, because they are the way employees will escape if there is a fire. If these doors are blocked, it will be very hard for people to get outside in time, so make it a practice to keep the doors clear whenever anyone is inside your building. Check to make sure there are no desks, boxes, books or garbage cans sitting in the way of the doors.

Do you have fire extinguishers in your building? If not, you should purchase some and make sure that everyone in your office knows how to use them. Check them frequently to make sure they are in good operating condition.

Sprinkler systems are also a good idea. When you install sprinkler systems, you can have them connected to your fire alarm system. That way, if your alarm system detects a fire, it can automatically turn the sprinklers on, which can keep the fire under control until the fire department arrives.

Fire and heat detectors are also a critical part of your commercial fire system. Just make sure that you check them frequently to make sure the wiring is intact. It is also important to keep fresh batteries in them.
