Use Of Rockwool Insulation In Businesses And Homes

By Alex D White

Rockwool insulation was designed to combat the setbacks of the traditional fiberglass insulation, and can be used by both homes and commercial buildings. It is a safer green material, has a high R-value and is safe in terms of health. It is sometimes referred to as mineral wool insulation, slag insulation or stone wool insulation. The following are some of its many benefits.

The most popular reason many people use this insulation is that it is cost effective and can save a lot of energy. In fact, if you do not insulate your building, chances are high that most of the other energy efficient items in your house will not be as productive as you want them to be. The material can be installed on the floors, attics, ceilings, and walls, or any other part of the envelope of your house.

You can also use this material to preserve energy during summers, to keep your house warm, and cool it during winters. This can save you some cash when the energy bill come, and has also the advantage of noise retention, which makes it an additional comfort and quality in your house. Moreover, installing it is easy, and it can also be installed even when the building is complete.

The insulation has been tested to have a high R-value, and has passed all applicable standard tests, meaning that it can retain its value for the whole of its lifespan. In addition, the batt products bounce back when regular compression is achieved, and also resists settling. As such, throughout the lifespan of the product, its thermal performance remains constant. Because of its high density as compared to open cell foam and cellulose insulation, this product also allows for relatively higher R-values when installed in wall cavities.

Another great benefit of rock wool insulation products is that they are naturally non combustible, just like fiber glass, and this remains true for the entire lifespan. Although not meant to fight fire, due to its nature, it protects flammable buildings from the effects of fire, increases their resistance to fire, and slows heat transfer from escalating to high temperatures. This is because it does not fuel fire by releasing smoke, heat or burning.

This insulation contains no toxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic substances that can damage the ozone layer, which makes it a greener product as compared to other materials. Moreover, it consists of abundant renewable and natural raw materials. You can recycle it when a building is under deconstruction, after its lifespan is over.

Environmental factors such as humidity and rain are bound to influence insulation materials. As such, this can cause a raise in the moisture content of the material, during or after installation. Rock wool is preferred as it has a better R-value, and the material composition of the material makes it compatible to weather changes.

The other great thing about this insulation is that it can help to prevent breeding of rodents and insects. This is because of the natural composition of the insulation which makes it hard for the animals to reside, unlike such insulations as fiberglass, which is a breeding site for rodents. This can allow you peace of mind as you will not have to worry about the noises they make in the house and health issues as well.
