Your Success As A Medical Biller: A Good Education

By Alan Greenbensons

The job market today is full of a lot of men and women looking for an opportunity. Many men and women don't have jobs that pay their bills on a daily basis. It is hard to find a full time job that pays you for what you are worth. Lots of people are beginning to see the benefits of working for a medical billing company. Medical billing is a term used in healthcare as the person that handles the billing. He/she is the one that gets the company money to pay salaries. If you are a good and reputable biller, the medical doctor will be pleased. A lot of coders today are unsure about ICD-10 and don't understand it enough yet. This is why it's important for you to get a good education in ICD-10 if you are new to the industry or have been working in it for a long time.

Going back to school in order to learn this trade is an excellent idea. A person must figure out for themselves why they need this kind of education to begin with. It is important to allow your boss to know that you are educated in ICD-10. It helps to have your certification as well because it shows that you know what you are doing. Medical billing today is a need. It is specifically geared towards people getting to the next level in life. If you want to be able to reach a higher level in billing, you must see for yourself that you can do what you can in order to be happy.

The truth of the matter is that the healthcare industry is lacking qualified medical coders. Before you get scared about the word coding, I want to tell you that it's not like computer science coding. Coding in the medical field is more about inputting the correct numbers into a claim that you wished to get paid on by an insurance company.

For some reason, this industry draws a lot of people thinking that they can have an easy work at home job. For starters, physicians don't often hire medical billers that work from home anymore. They often hire reputable companies that they know can deliver. Most medical billers charge 5% to 9% of a cost for their services. This can be a nice chunk of your money. However, if a billing company can get you higher returns, it may be wise for them to use them. It is important to ask yourself why you should use a medical billing company to begin with. Many medical billing companies are reputable and easy to communicate with.

Insurance companies today have gotten a lot nosier. Insurance fraud was happening a lot before ICD-10 came along. Often, blood labs would bill insurance company's multiple times unnecessarily to collect money. They made millions of dollars off of the insurance companies. Blood labs and "shady" doctors often abused the billing system. Insurance companies seemed to have put a stop to it under the new ICD-10. Everything now must become documented and put into place more fairly. It is important to get your master's degree in medical billing today. No longer can you have no post education beyond high school. It is important to have a bachelors and master's degree if possible. There is a lot of competition in the world today. The shocking thing is that most people do not know how to do ICD-10 coding. You can stand out by having your certification. In this way, you will be taken more seriously. Certification is necessary today in order to prove that you know what you are doing. A lot of coders say that they understand ICD-10 and clearly do not.
