The Veteran Student Life

By Jim Thorpe

College can be a difficult and stressful time for all students, and learning to balance the stresses of college can be extremely difficult, but is infinitely important to each student. Veterans in particular have a great opportunity to expand their knowledge and manage the stresses of college as they seek to return to civilian life after serving in the military.

Whether you are a veteran who was in a war, or just someone who wants to have a good veterans day, being actively involved is the first part of having a great veterans day. Many communities have things such as Veterans Day programs or services that you can go to, to pay tribute to those that are serving.

You may have changed but they will still think that you are the old you. Often times people who served feel like they are in a different level emotionally with their old friends who don't have the same experiences from serving. Be understanding and when necessary, have a discussion designed to help both parties understand better.

You can be in the heat of service to back home in about a day. This is not nearly enough time to adjust back into the swing of things. Don't feel pressured to rush back into to things or to take demands to do things you aren't ready for. You are number one and you need to take the time that you need to adjust yourself. The time that it takes can change from person to person so don't compare yourself to how others are doing.

Because veterans have made such a significant contribution to their society and often have sacrificed many opportunities to do so, the government has sought to compensate them by expediting their pursuit of further education. This expedition allows veterans to enter the job force more readily and to receive their education at a quicker rate. Each veteran deserves the opportunity to pursue a career in whatever they choose, and recent bills strive to help them in this pursuit.

Many people can be deeply moved by music. Patriotic music is no exception and on Veterans Day there are many opportunities to listen to music such as this. Try going to a concert or going to see a band that features patriotic music.

Invite your friends and family and try to participate in this activity together. Nothing can leave you feeling a deeper sense of gratitude for your country than listening to moving music. If your community doesn't offer any kind of music like this, then consider even trying to set up your own concert for those in your community.

As veterans, there are many benefits that are available and should be taken advantage of. In addition to the educational opportunities, there are also va loans, va home loans, and va house loans to help veterans provide for their families in the best way possible. Veteran students are extremely important and should be supported in our society. Let's look to the future and support our veterans today.
