How To Stay Creative As You Get Older

By Hedrick Lepsch

The world around us continues to change in a variety of different ways. We can travel faster, communicate instantaneously, and do a whole host of other things that our grandparents probably never dreamed about. However, along with the positive changes in our society also comes a more competitive workforce. While this is good because it drives innovation and results in better solutions to everyday problems, it also means that a college degree by itself isn't usually enough to land you a great job. To really get into the industry of your choosing, you need more than just a diploma: you need to know how to network.

First- Find out what you are passionate about and write about it. Get those crazy passions down on paper so you don't forget about them. Second- Don't let people tell you that what you are doing is crazy or that you can't do it. They say that because they are scared of creativity and it is something they would never do. If everyone got scared out of doing what others were scared of there would be little to no innovation in the world today.

Third- Get out there and meet new people who you wouldn't normally hang out with. New people bring new ideas and there is a lot to be said about how much influence the people we associate with have on us. Fourth- Traveling can be an amazing way of keeping up that creative genious in all of us. It is sometimes takes us out of our comfort zone but it really gives us new perspective and ideas. Fifth- Music and art are where we can find inspiration if everything else fails. This is where we can learn from the masters, sometimes for free. Sixth- Try being a kid for a while just to reconnect with the old you who wasn't afraid to dream. Allow yourself to be curious.

Internships are not only a great way to gain work experience, but they are excellent networking opportunities. The people with whom you are working get the chance to see you in your element, and as long as you perform admirably, you will earn great connections through your internships. In fact, if you want to get a job in an ad agency right out of college, your best bet is to get an internship there first.

Likewise, these online note sharing sites can greatly help a student to prepare for exams or other assignments by allowing them to have additional sets of notes on the same subject. In the same vein, there are multiple online archives of academic journals that can help an online student to learn their material from academic professionals and forerunners of the field.

Tenth- Make learning new things a habit. There is a creative world out there and it is good to be involved with it and knowing going on around you. Overall gaining an education in creative design can help you tap into some of these resources like never before!
