Qualitative Market Research For Businesses

By Jeannie Chapman

Being in a very competitive market will require any business to get their hands on information that will be able to aid them in surviving and even getting to be number one. One of the techniques that can be used in order to try to get on top would be none other than making use of qualitative market research.

Now doing this kind of research would be very beneficial to any business. First of all it will be able to help businesses get feedback from the customers themselves. Businesses will be able to know if the customers like their product and how to improve the product or service in any way that they could.

Branding and packaging is also a very important aspect of any product and businesses will be able to get feedback about that too. Promotion is one of the four Ps of marketing and undoubtedly plays a very big role because it is the aspect that will help in giving good first impression to consumers. Now if the first impression of the product through the promotion is good, then people will want to take a look at it.

Also, it is very important for businesses to get feedback on the price of the product. A consumer will buy a product depending on whether the price does justice for the product or not. In other words, it is important to know what customers think of the price because customers will only buy something if they think that it is worth the price.

Lastly, it is the customers who will tell businesses what kind of product they would want and would definitely be willing to buy at the drop of a hat. If the business feels like there is a demand for a certain product, they can validate this feeling by asking the consumers themselves. That way, they will know whether to make a new product that will suit the tastes of the consumers or not.

For those who are rather new to this type of research, they are two common ways to conduct this type of thing. The first and easiest way would be to conduct interviews to certain people who fit the target market. It is through interviews that businesses will get the people to expound on their answers and make plans from there.

The other one is known as the conducting of focus groups wherein this one handles an entire group instead of an individual. This may be harder to do but the results will be more accurate because it will handle literally a small portion of a target market. By doing this, companies will know what people will think of a product or service as a group instead of just as a person.

So basically, that is some information on the art of qualitative market research. The whole reason for this process is that one would want to see the reactions of the consumers and try to act according to those reactions. From there, companies will be able to improve their products and serve the consumers better than before.
