Keeping A Large Family Fed On A Small Budget

By Hedrick Lepsch

It can be difficult to keep a large family fed, especially on a budget. Children require a lot of nourishment in order to properly grow and develop. Parents of large families feel the strain of maintaining a healthy fare for their children, particularly because they are feeding more people than are in an average family. In order to be successful in this venture, parents of large families need to be wise in how they go about it.

These types of products are usually carbohydrates that are supplemented with nutrients and proteins. Thankfully, these substances also usually last for a long period of time, because they can be dried and stored. As long as they are kept free from contamination and liquid, you can keep them in storage containers in your pantry or cellar for a while before you will need to throw them away. Staples have been around almost as long as civilization; it is the way that many centuries of tribes have eating and filled their bellies.

Firstly, take the time to plan out the meals for the week. This process will take a certain amount of strategy. Determine what you will be serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and be sure to take note of what ingredients are necessary to create these meals. When you go shopping for the week, buy only what you need.

When deciding to keep an article of clothing, ask yourself some tough questions -- be brutally honest as you inspect each item. When did you wear it last? When will you wear it again? How do you feel when you look in the mirror while wearing it?What is the worst thing that would happen if you got rid of it? If it looks great on you, feels comfortable and makes you smile when you wear it, keep it and put it back in your closet.

When planning and purchasing for meals, try to use vegetables because they are less expensive than most other products. Vegetables are also very filling and can be added to a small amount of meat to create a healthy and hearty concoction.

If one member prefers pasta, then purchase some whole wheat spaghetti for them to snack on with meaty marinara sauce or some parmesan cheese. Those that love potatoes may wish for you to have this starch on hand so that they can mash them or baked them for filling benefits.Breads are great for sandwiches and many breakfast dishes; you could use them with peanut butter and jelly, for toast, or with eggs. Breads will not be able to last as long as some of the other staple foods, simply because the grains used for it has been added to yeast that has the potential to mold and go bad.

While cold cereal is usually considered to be the standard breakfast meal, it is not the cheapest way to feed your family. Think about making large amounts of a single type of food, rather than buying each individual his favorite brand of cereal. Oatmeal and pancakes can be made in large quantities. These foods are also healthy and filling.

If you ever run out of staples, make sure to stock up right away. In case of an emergency, they will be the best and most filling things to have in your meal arsenal; they will also sustain you and your family for longer.

Most types of drinks can also be a budget strain, as well as being healthy. Water is the healthiest beverage around. If you have water with most meals, you will find it easier to purchase more nutritious foods for your meals. In the end, your family will be much healthier. It may take a little adjustment for your family to get used to the change in menu. Do not worry. Adjustment takes time. So, don't let up when there are a few minor complaints voiced by your children, or even your spouse. After a while, they will come to thank you. Begin now to make the change!
