Understanding Sandblasting And Painting Processes

By Grace Rivas

Sandblasting and painting are 2 processes that go together in decoration of surfaces. Sand-blasting is the powerful propulsion of fine particles towards surfaces for etching or cleaning purposes whereas painting refers to the application of paints on a place. From the definitions, it should be understood that sandblasting is performed before paint application. It serves as a surface preparation exercise for the paints to bond well with the surface they are applied on.

Blasting is used in cleaning surfaces of different forms of dirt like mud, mold, old paint, and dust among others. It may be utilized to clean both small and big objects and surfaces. The examples of surfaces it can be applied on include roofs, windows, cars, floors, walls, trees, household equipment, ceiling boards, and animals. It requires some skills and experience to save on abrasive, time, and water.

The process of abrasive blasting is done using equipment referred to as a blaster. This equipment is made up of different elements that function together to achieve a common goal. The various components are power units, air compressors, abrasive nozzles, and hoses. The hoses have small openings to help in increasing and maintaining the pressure with which the abrasive emerges from the equipment.

The blaster equipment can be fueled by different sources of fuel such as electrical power, gasoline, diesel, and petrol. The power unit consumes the fuel to provide the required power to run other components of the machine. The air compressor sucks atmospheric air and pressurizes it to a high level. Pressurization is meant to give the air the energy to propel the abrasive for cleaning the object being sandblasted.

The nozzles are usually operated by the individuals operating the machines. The individuals direct the nozzles to face the areas that are being etched or cleaned. This implies that the amount of time, abrasive, or water is used on the task relies on the efficacy of the operators. Experienced operators tend to produce superior results in a shorter time frame. That is the cause it is advisable to hire a corporation that has experience in sandblasting.

After the surface is well prepared, the actual painting job can start. Powder coating is a current method of applying paint on an item and if applied properly, it produces nice results. It has many advantages over the conventional paint. First, need for a solvent medium to keep the paint in a solution form is not necessary. The powder remains in a dry form and may be applied up to a thick layer without sagging or running.

As part of the preparation, all elements that do not require to be painted must be removed from the spot. Once the paint has been applied to the needed level, the object must be put through a curing exercise which is same as drying in ordinary painting. Curing should take around fifteen minutes under oven warmth. Flameless heat sources achieve the curing in a perfect way.

Sandblasting and painting are services rendered by several firms. Most service firms in this specialty have most recent tools necessary for the task. For people who lack the equipment or the right expertise to perform the job, service companies are a good option.
