As there is a large supply of plastics available to all there needs to be a way to dispose of them in such a way as to keep all animals as well as humans healthy. This kind of pollution will affect the oceans, waterways and not to forget the lands. Due to the fact that plastics are not expensive and durable they are used at very high levels by people. Plastic recycling solutions are therefore very important to all who live in this world.
There are two main groups of the polymer family and they are the Thermoplastics and the Thermosets. The Thermoplastics will soften when they are heated and will again harden once cooled. The Thermosets however will always remain hard and can never be re-softened again. Methane also gets released into the atmosphere causing global warming.
Plastic products in the form of pellets are put on cargo ships to be made into different products and transported all around the world. These hurdles are accidentally spilled into the seas and it is because of this that there is so much litter on the beaches. It is estimated that there is over one hundred and sixty million tons of this form of pollution in all the oceans.
From there they will be sorted into different kinds and will then be put into a bale breaker. This is a machine that will shred them into small pieces. Once they have completed that process they will be washed and dried. They will then be melted and the liquid will be made into beads. They are then made into many products including household items, carpets, clothing as well as jewellery and purses. Very seldom are they made back into their original shape and form.
Some examples of the Thermosets are Polyurethane and Phenol-formaldehyde. The Polyurethane comes in a form such as foam and can be either stiff or bendy. The low-density one is used in truck seating as well as bedding whereas the stiff one is used in thermal insulations. The soft solid ones can be found in printer rollers and gel pads.
There are two different ways to dispose of these items. The first is waste collection points which are set up along the roads or in parking lots. The other is at drop-off centres where one can take more than one type of this material to be disposed of safely.
